Happy Venus Day while Venus is in Taurus 💜💜💜
Venus in her earthy home of Taurus teaches us the value of material sensuality and comfort, as well as the grit to steadfastly pursue the lived experience of our desires, despite the fleeting lifespan of material objects and beings. Perhaps it is the fleeting nature of beauty and pleasure itself that motivates us to pursue them. Perhaps it reminds us of our own fleeting lives and how we must make the most of this impermanent existence.
As John Keating (played by Robin Williams, forever RIP) says in the Dead Poets Society:
"Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."
After spending several months misguidedly prioritizing a project over my own health and joy, I've dedicated myself to an indefinite hiatus where I focus on what is rejuvenating and pleasurable in my life.
Art making has always been a grounded act of restoration for me, so I've committed to cresting art daily for the foreseeable future.
I treated myself to the sensual pleasures of new art supplies, one of them being a horrifically beautiful sketchbook with a white linen cover.
To avoid living in terror of watching it become dirty with use, I painted the cover as a galaxy, simultaneously creating something visually beautiful and breaking the sketchbook in so I'd feel more likely to use it 💜
What are you doing to enjoy the pleasure of living in a physical world? How can your prioritize your self care and personal desires? What beauty can you give back to our magnificent world?
